Spiritual Companionship

What is Spiritual Companionship?

Spiritual companionship is an ancient ministry of the Christian community the goal of which is to help people deepen their relationship with God, Creator Spirit. It is for people who want to grow spiritually and are seeking guidance.

Spiritual companionship is the process of accompanying people on a spiritual journey.  Spiritual Companionship exists in a context that emphasizes growing closer to God (or the sacred, the holy, or a higher power). Spiritual Companionship explores a deeper relationship with the spiritual aspect of being human.  Simply put, spiritual companionship is helping people tell their sacred stories everyday.  (Spiritual Companionship is not covered by medical insurance.)

What happens in Spiritual Companionship?

Spiritual companionship is a helping relationship. The  Spiritual Companion, helps a person look honestly at their relationship with God, Creator Spirit.  The Companion helps a person to notice and respond to Spirit's communication in  prayer and life experiences. The focus on a person's experiences of God, Creator Spirit distinguishes spiritual companionship from psychological counseling and therapy. The Companion and the person try to recognize and comprehend what Spirit seems to be saying to them. The Companion does not tell a person what to do, but may offer suggestions regarding prayer, prayer methods, or life issues. Instead, the companion helps the person pay closer attention to the inner movements and feelings that lead one toward or away from God.

How often does one meet with a Companion?

A person generally meets with the companion about once a month for an hour to talk about life, prayer experiences, and experiences of God.  These discussions are strictly confidential.
